What Ever Happened To...

Lifesaver Rolls? Why can't I find any? Do they make them anymore? What is with the bags of lifesavers with them all individually wrapped? Where are the butter rum lifesavers? The cherry lifesavers? The tangerine lifesavers? When did this happen???

When did they stop making Jolly Rancher sticks? Do they even make those anymore? Not that I care that much about that. The little individual candies are better in that case... but, still... When did that happen?

And what ever happened to Koogle Peanut Butter? Does anyone out there remember Koogle Peanut Butter? I loved it when I was a kid! They had cinnamon peanut butter, banana peanut butter, and chocolate peanut butter. We had it in El Paso, Texas. Is it only a Texas thing? I can't remember ever having it after I turned 8 or 9. My mom says she thinks they stopped making it back then. Why? Why would they ever stop making that?

If anyone has the answers... please tell me.

I still see rolls of Life Savers out here in eastern PA.

I haven't bought a Life Saver since they changed lime to green apple. Lime was my favorite, and the only reason I tolerated the other four flavors.

Waaaaah!

Why do "they" feel the need to mess with packaging? I am with you. Where are these things? And what is up with some of this new stuff that's out? Have you tried the chocolate skittles? OMG. Digusting. I thought they were gonna be like M&M's. Wrong! They are like nasty tootsie rolls in the candy shell. So gross! Wrong on so many levels.

We used to get lifesaver "books" in our Christmas stockings. Remember those?

I have never heard of that specific brand of peanut butter before, but I know a place that has lots of specialty peanut butters if you are in the need of some :).

I don't really eat hard candy, so I haven't noticed any changes with it, as I haven't been looking.

I don't know about the butter rum lifesavers, but I believe that we sell the five flavored lifesaver rolls at the hardware store I work at. I'll hook you up if that is the case! Man, I could go for some butter rum right now, you got me thinking about them!
I also forgot about the jolly rancher sticks. Those were good. Never heard of the Koogle Peanut Butter. Imust have lived a sheltered life. Sounds good though, I could've gone for the cinnamon flavored one!
Thanks for the memories!

Koogle went the way of the dinosaur (kind of like the tomato and spinach) you know...ecoli...or salmonella.

Just kidding...I've never heard of it before ever!

The wierdest gift that I have ever received was last year for my birthday, my mother-in-law gave me a 3 pack of gourmet peanut butter.
Sun Dried Tomato Peanut Butter (yep...that's what I said), Chocolate Mocha Peanut Butter, and Raspberry Peanut Butter.

Dude...I don't even like PBJ.

And...yes sir ee bob...I remember the Lifesaver Christmas books in my stockings...loved them! ;)

Koogle must be a Texas thing. I've never seen any around the Funny Farm.

The only time I've ever seen butter rum Lifesavers was in the Christmas candy book. MMM

I have to opt for the individual ones. I'm a diabetic, and they're sugar free. You just can have too many. They cause a laxative effect. Yup. It's in teeny tiny print on the bag.

I fed KOOGLE Peanut butter in all 3 flavors in Texas in the early 1970s. Just after I read your Blog, my daughter living in Memphis called and we discussed Koogle and she remembered it vividly. I didn't know too much about nutrition back then, but it seems the FAT content in Koogle was overwhelming and left an oily aftertaste. Thanks for bringing back a good old memory of flavored Peanut Butter - even if it was not good for us. Who knew??

Also, in the 1950s-1960s my Grandmother gave me and my brother the Christmas Book of Lifesavers. They were good, but we always hoped she would give us a little more than Lifesavers. We never let on that we were disappointed with the little "book" of candy - we just turned it into a time to laugh and make memories.

I just commented about this earlier today on Mud's blog!
This past winter I was looking for roll Live Savers again for some cookies that I make and once again couldn't find them locally. I refuse to pay shipping for ordering them online because I feel that I really should be able to get them locally!

Okay, so I don't know about the peanut butter. But, I know you can find the rolls of Lifesavers (even the butter rum!) at Cracker Barrel restaurant/stores (are they only in the south??). They have all kinds of fun, old timey candies there!

I was just in Victoria, British Columbia and I saw the original rolls of lifesavers being sold. I forgot to look at the airport(s).

I have never heard of the peanut butter but . . . do you remember Goober peanut butter? The kind with the jelly in the same jar? I just saw some the last time I went shopping. It was gross! Probably still is!
